Today the NLP team headed over to Quixote Studios to shoot a segment for the Historic Tours of America’s Boston Tea Party Ship and Museum. The footage from the shoot will be transformed into a holographic-like image using the pepper’s ghost illusionary technique for the museum, which is now closed for renovations. This technique made the shoot quite challenging, according to our cinematographer Jesse Beecher. The camera position had to be precisely at the same level as the stage the actors were on in order for it to be transformed using pepper’s ghost. Using a plate glass and special lighting techniques, pepper ghost can make objects seem to appear or disappear, transparent, or one object seem to morph into another.
