NLP worked with the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum to produce media for the temporary exhibition La Belle: The Ship that Changed History and the revamped Becoming Texas galleries.
The La Belle exhibit tells the story of the ill-fated 17th century French expedition to North America and the remarkable discovery, excavation, and conservation effort of the La Belle shipwreck. The exhibit media includes three films on the story of the ship and the science around its recovery. These films feature extensive 3D and 2D animation, original interviews with historians, and footage of conservation efforts. The exhibit also includes iPad-based kiosks—created by NLP’s partner, Terra Incognita—that offer users a series of games and activities to learn more about the expedition, ship, and recovered artifacts. Interactive content for the exhibit is managed through a custom content management system that also provides analytic data on the use of the exhibition media.

Becoming Texas occupies the first floor of the museum, offering visitors hands-on and immersive experiences to learn about Texas’s early history. For this exhibit, we created a large-scale projected map program that introduces viewers to this incredible span of history as well as a smaller animated map that comprehensively shows the spread of Spanish Catholic missions, forts, and settlements.
