Dinosaur National Monument is a confluence of breathtaking vertical canyons and the birthplace of whitewater rafting—not to mention the site of the largest discovery of dinosaur fossils in U.S. history. Northern Light Productions was tasked with creating a 15-minute interpretive film for the visitor center together with a series of five 5-minute webisodes. These films cover defining aspects of the park like geology, ecology, Native culture, history, and paleontology, evoking this unique place and capturing the imagination for many who never get to experience the full majesty of its canyons.

Centered on the key role of the Green and Yampa rivers—which cut the canyons, helped reveal the fossils, and provided sustenance for animal and human life throughout history—the film employs stunning original footage, archival imagery, animation, narration, and interviews with local experts and indigenous communities to help visitors see how water mixes with the vast span of geologic time to destroy, preserve, and reveal life, and additionally provide recreational opportunities today. To capture the striking visuals, our crews spent weeks on its rivers, camping in its remote canyons, patiently searching for flora, fauna, the perfect light on canyon walls, and dark skies that allow for brilliant starry timelapses.
