Visitors to the Knock Knock Children’s Museum enter a playful and imaginative learning environment. Geared especially towards young children, the museum aims to inspire learning through everyday experiences that promote literacy and STEAM thinking. Children encounter many fun surprises along the way–from storybook friends to owls telling knock knock jokes. Our twelve media programs are closely integrated into the interactive fabricated exhibits.

On Storybook Stage, children’s books are brought to life through large projections with 3D animation, 2D animation, and audio. Nearby, the Story Tree reveals audio of fairytale characters hidden behind doors and 3D animated animals spotted through a periscope.
In the B.R. Star Studio, visitors get a chance to stretch their legs and shake it out by selecting one of five different dances—from jazz to country. On monitors integrated into the studio walls, kids follow along as young dancers we filmed locally lead them through each dance.
The Video Harbor & River Tour lets kids navigate a tugboat down the Mississippi River via a virtual tour. They control their speed via a throttle integrated with a spin browser. The “Captain” narrates as sites from Baton Rouge pass by.
Children pretend to do their own grocery shopping and learn to be conscious consumers in the Pelican Pantry. They can purchase food on the checkout monitor or scan play food to learn about healthy eating choices. Some items such as pecans and shrimp also trigger videos showing the journey these foods take from the farm or Gulf to the store. Maybe they come from even closer to home than expected!
