The Mark Twain Center for Transatlantic Relations is housed in the former headquarters of the United States Army Europe in Heidelberg, Germany. An initiative of the City of Heidelberg, the Center tells the story of transatlantic relations in Heidelberg, looking from past to present and into the future. The bilingual exhibits emphasize first-person perspectives and place Heidelberg in a global context.
Northern Light Productions served as the media producer for the Center’s first permanent exhibition. The main vehicle for information is the Digital Dossier, an iPad program on which visitors can find informational text, archival imagery, and short videos in each themed room. Featured in the Dossier are selections from twenty-seven interviews we produced in Germany and the United States. These diverse eyewitnesses run the spectrum from a retired US Commanding General to a jazz musician to a peace activist.

Additionally, we created several linear media pieces that play in the exhibit galleries. “Transatlantic Encounters” uses playful animations projected on a map to illustrate over 300 years of German-American relations.
Another highlight is a narrated film projected onto a topographical map of Heidelberg, which surveys the relationship between geopolitical context and troop numbers in Heidelberg and highlights key US Army installations in the city.
